 When the recent quake hit Northern Cebu, the tremors did not only crack the walls and scatter all those debris. It also shook the whole creative industry. Photographers, videographers, hair and makeup artists (HMUA), event hosts, and other event creatives were deeply affected.  In an industry that depends on booked events like weddings, debuts, birthday parties, and other community gatherings, the sudden cancellation hit hard. Men behind the lens lost bookings overnight. Hair and makeup artists packed away their kits. Coordinators suddenly faced the painful task of refunding or rescheduling clients who were also affected by the calamity.  Some beauty salons and photo studios sustained structural damage. While others are fortunate to have minimal damage and resume business, many customers are hesitant to go inside and avail of their services, cautious of the aftershocks. On September 30, at almost 10 p.m., a powerful magnitude 6.9 earthquake rocked Northern Cebu, shaking homes and causing people to panic.  Houses, buildings, roads, bridges, and other infrastrucures were damaged across Bogo City, San Remigio, Medellin, Daanbantayan, Tabogon, and other towns in Northern Cebu. Authorities later confirmed several deaths and dozens of injuries. Hundreds of homes, schools, and public buildings were left cracked or partially collapsed, while key roads were torn apart, slowing down rescue and relief operations. Straight-out-of-camera shots using Shuttergrove’s Metrochrome Obscura recipe for Fujifilm (https://www.shuttergroove.com/.../metrochrome-obscura.../) It was just another random stroll along San Remigio’s lovely coast when I came across two charming ladies doing a DIY photoshoot. I asked for their permission to snap a few quick shots, and they graciously said yes. The timing was perfect, and it turned out to be a great opportunity to get in some practice before tomorrow’s booked pre-birthday photo session. Advance happy birthday, Sunshine. ☀️
