Bogo City ‘Drug Warriors’

source: City Government of Bogo FB page More than 500 volunteers took an oath to be part of the group to help eradicate illegal drugs in the City of Bogo. The “Drug Warriors” are volunteers made up of the 240 drug-related personalities who surrendered  and local residents of the city’s 201 sitios and 29 barangays. Loot to Wipe Out Drugs in Daanbantayan in 100 Days

Daanbantayan mayoral hopeful Vicente Loot , during the 888 News Forum, said he will wipe out unlawful drugs in the municipality in 100 days if elected. Loot said the widespread illegal drug trade under the current administration is a huge threat to the municipality’s economic progress. He warned drug lords to stop their illegal activities in Daanbantayan. He further stated that  if they don’t heed his warning, these drug lords, drug traffickers and drug pushers will be arrested and charged in court, or worse, they will be killed in anti-illegal drug operations. Incumbent Mayor Augusto Corro said he could not imagine the illegal drug problem can be solved in 100 days. SUNSTAR: 2 Robbery Suspects Fall During Drug Bust in Northern Cebu

Wednesday, April 29, 2015 By KEVIN A. LAGUNDA POLICE arrested two suspected members of a big-time robbery group in a drug bust in Barangay Banban, Bogo City last Tuesday night. The team led by Chief Insp. Richard Oliver, the city police officer-in-charge, caught Franklin Booc Araneta, 30; and Naice Velez Oporto, 34, at 8 p.m. Araneta and Oporto were allegedly cohorts of Joel Sumabong, who was charged in court for allegedly leading a bank robbery in Bogo City in 2005 but was eventually acquitted. Sumabong was arrested by the intelligence operatives of Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) in a buy-bust last January. “We are checking if they are involved in some past shooting and robbery incidents in Bogo City,” said Oliver in Cebuano in a phone interview. The suspects are level two drug pushers for they can allegedly dispose of 200 grams of illegal drugs per week. Click here to read full story.

Mayor Junie Asks for Support From Army Troops

With 44 policemen in the City of Bogo , Mayor Martinez asked for military reinforcement to battle crime. The mayor sent his request through the army's 8th Infantry Division in Samar following the gun-slaying of three men which is believed to be related to illegal drug trade. Martinez earlier asked for more policemen from the Cebu Provincial Police office but was told there was none to spare. The military directed its 6th Company of the Special Forces (SF) assigned in Sogod, Cebu to assess the threat in the area first. - Read more: Cebu Daily News
