PWDs in San Remigio to Get Vehicle

Persons with disabilities (PWDs) in San Remigio will get a PWD-friendly service vehicle from the provincial government. Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III approved the vehicle request in a meeting with the PWDs and local officials of the said municipality last July 1st at the Capitol. source: cebu.gov.ph The vehicle would cost around 800,000 pesos. The Governor also committed to the individual requests of PWD members like scratches and prosthetic feet. He also agreed in principle to make the Cebu capitol building more accessible to the PWDs by providing a ramp in its main entrance. Cebu.gov.ph reported that Jerry Ursaiz, president of PWD Federation-Cebu Province, said they are thankful that the province is mindful of the accessibility law. Origin of Sinulog Sinulog is a dance ritual in honor of the miraculous image of the Santo Nino. The dance moves to the sound of the drums and this resembles the current (Sinulog) of what was then known as Cebu's Pahina River. Thus, in Cebuano, they say it's Sinulog. More than just the meaning of the word is the significance of the dance. Historians now say that Sinulog, which is of pagan origin, is the link between the country's pagan past and its Christian present. Let's trace its history. Historical accounts say that before Portuguese navigator Ferdinand Magellan came to Cebu on April 7, 1521 to plant the cross on its shore and claim the country for the King of Spain, Sinulog was already danced by the natives in honor of their wooden idols and anitos. Former NBA player and head coach Avery Johnson, along with Portland Trail Blazers' Robin Lopez and Wesley Matthews, will visit Norther Cebu this Friday(September 12) to help Yolanda-hit areas.  source:  @trailblazers Lopez, Matthews, and Johnson will support the NBA's ongoing commitment to help children and families affected by Typhoon Yolanda, and will visit communities like Compostela. They will also conduct basketball clinics for local children. NBA Cares Family in support of UNICEF, World Vision, Red Cross and other organizations are mobilizing to aid communities and people affected by the super typhoon.  The NBA has contributed more than $2.2 million in support of Typhoon Yolanda relief efforts, including a $250,000 donation to World Vision in November by the NBA and the National Basketball Players Association. 5 Branches of the Regional Trial Court to be Created In Bogo City

Several bills passed by the House that seek to create more courts for the provinces of Laguna and Cebu and the city of Valenzuela has been approved by the Senate. The passage of the measures into law is expected to lessen the backlog of cases in the Philippines, especially those in the provinces. Sen. Francis Escudero, chair of the Senate committees on justice and human Rights, sponsored House Bill Nos. 4476, 4492, 4511 and 4513. The bills were approved with 19 affirmative votes, zero negative vote and zero abstention. The bills were approved on second reading without amendments last July 31. - Manila Bulletin Once enacted into law, seven RTC's will be created in the province of Cebu - one in Carcar, one in Naga and five will be created in Bogo City . Pintos Festival at Pasigarbo sa Sugbo 2011

PINTOS FESTIVAL is an annual festival in the northern city of Bogo that showcases their delicious delicacy the pintos. Barangays all around Bogo City jive up together to form 5 cluster tribes. 'Kuyayang' is a courtship dance of the Bogohanons that is staged before the community during fiestas. This street mardi gras as a cultural tourism festival of Bogo manifests the cultural heritage of the town and serves as an avenue for cultural conservancy of the city. The Official Pintos Festival Jingle was composed by Mr. Dante J. Mayor with the assistance of Christian Yurango. The composition was finalized with the musical guidance of Mr. Slavsky YbaƱez. The lyrics was originally written by Mr. Gremer Chan Reyes and was edited by Dante J. Mayor and Rev. Fr. Eligio M. Suico.
