Marian Rivera's Charity Auction for Yolanda Survivors in Bantayan

GMA star Marian Rivera has raised more than a hundred thousand pesos (100,000) to help the survivors of super typhoon Yoalanda  in Bantayan Island, Cebu . She auctioned off some of her clothes where the proceeds will benefit around 300 fishermen which are beneficiaries of the GMA Kapuso Foundation, Inc.   The charity auction was the culmating activity for the Kapuso Adopt-a-Bangka Project which aims to  extends help to affected communities in Northern Cebu. It was held in Lewis Grand Hotel in Clark, Pampanga. In her instagram account , Marian posted: "Masaya ako't nakapagbigay tulong na naman tayo sa pamamagitan ng Kapuso Adopt-A-Bangka Project. Mahigit 400 daan na pamilya sa Bantayan Island ng Northern Cebu na ang ating natulungan. Negros Trade Fair to Showcase Woven Baskets of San Remigio

The creativity and resilience of the Visayan people in face of calamity will be highlighted in the 29th Negros Trade Fair which starts today, 24th of September, and will end on the 28th of September. It is held at the Glorietta Activity Center in Ayala, Makati City. Its theme for this year is "Smiles Beyond Borders" which promises to bring the finest food, fashion, furniture arts and crafts not only from Negros, but also from Cebu, Masbate, Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan and Antique. The organizers hoped that the fair would boost livelihood in the areas ravaged first by the killer quake and Super Typhoon “Yolanda” last year. RAFI to Construct Classrooms in Bantayan, Madridejos and San Remigio.

Bantayan , Madridejos , San Remigio and nine (9) other Local Government Units (LGUs) of Cebu signed an agreement with The  Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc . (RAFI) for the repair and construction of 218 classrooms that would benefit almost 10,000 students.  The Php144-Million School Rehabilitaion Project was signed by the mayors and/or representatives of the towns of Alcoy, Aloguinsan, Asturias, Bantayan, Barili, Borbon, Carcar, Naga, Madridejos, Samboan, San Remigio and Sibonga  as a continuing commitment to provide the school children with a safer and more conducive learning environment. Municipality of Tabogon Activates Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council

Oath-taking of Tabogon's BADAC source: cebu.gov.ph The Municipality of Tabogon activated its Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) for each of the town's 25 barangays. This will serve as its first line of defense against illegal drugs. Joey Herrera, Executive Director of the Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Commission (CPADAC), assured that the Province is willing to help and assist BADAC in its effort to repress illegal drug activities. He said that BADACs must be strong-willed in informing the municipal mayor and police chief of any suspected activities. Floods Hit Bogo City

A heavy downpour  triggered by Tropical Storm “Mario" which started last Wednesday night until yesterday morning caused flooding and landslides in several areas in Cebu. This prompted Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III  to cancel classes in all levels in the Province yesterday. Several areas in Bogo City were flooded. Families were rescued and evacuated to a safe area. NBA Stars to Help Rebuild Communities in Northern Cebu

Former NBA player and head coach Avery Johnson, along with Portland Trail Blazers' Robin Lopez and Wesley Matthews, will visit Norther Cebu this Friday(September 12) to help Yolanda-hit areas.  source:  @trailblazers Lopez, Matthews, and Johnson will support the NBA's ongoing commitment to help children and families affected by Typhoon Yolanda, and will visit communities like Compostela. Twelve Northern Cebu Towns Receive 168 Million

Twelve northern Cebu towns were given 168 million pesos to fix government buildings, build emergency shelter and develop resettlement areas for Yolanda survivors. The financial assistance came from three government agencies: Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), National Housing Authority (NHA), and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). Sunstar reported: This represents only the first tranche, said a recent progress report of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO). Walker Newcastle Engineer to Rebuild Flattened Schools

Mechanical engineer Duncan Kirton-Darling, from Walker in Newcastle, willwork on a disaster relief project in devastated parts of the Philippines. He will be spending ten weeks in the City of Bogo and San Remigio on the disaster relief project, which will also involve looking after children while their parents help with the recovery efforts. CIM Graduate Tops Physician Licensure Examination

Raymund Martin Sia Li, a graduate of the Cebu Institute of Medicine (CIM), has topped the Physician Licensure Examination held last August 2014. He garnered a rating of 89.58 percent and shared the number one spot with Eric Royd Fanco Talavera of University of Santo Tomas (UST). Another CIM graduate, Debbie Rose Uy Tanengsy, got the fifth spot with a rating of 89.17 percent. Tanengsy was also among the topnotchers in the July 2009 nursing licensure examination. The PRC said 2,218 of the 2,730 examinees passed the exam. Daanbantayan Residents Give Thanks in Haladaya Festival

Nine months after Typhoon Yolanda  hit the northern part of Cebu and devastated thousands of homes, residents of the Municipality of Daanbantayan remained strong and showed their resilience. They gave thanks for their partial recovery through their Haladaya Festival which is staged every 30th of August in honor of the town's patron St. Rose of Lima. “United with the Almighty God’s unceasing guidance and blessing, the Kandayan-ons have shown their natural resiliency and extraordinary ability to rise from the rubbles of Yolanda as we never wavered in our belief that we can survive, and not just survive, but be better than we were before,”  said Mayor Augusto D. Cebu’s newest cities—Bogo, Carcar and Naga—are in a good position to face this question squarely, before they have to bear the problems that older and larger cities now face, including floods and heavy traffic. One measurement favored by some local officials is revenue, which tends to increase after a town becomes a city. In his State of the City Address last Monday, Mayor Valdemar Chiong reported that the City of Naga’s revenues grew by P414 million between 2007 and 2013. Bogo and Carcar, which also became cities in 2007, can also report higher revenues since the change. From 2007 to 2012, Bogo’s revenues increased by P178 million, while those of Carcar grew by P215.5 million, according to the audit commission.
