City of Bogo Officials Take Special Course on Urban Planning

Bogo City officials and personnel participated in the 1st classroom sessions of the Special Course on Urban and Regional Planning for Cities (City SCURP) spearheaded by the League of Cities of the Philippines on February 11-13, 2014 at the UP School of Urban and Regional Planning, Quezon City . The SCURP  participants also visited Quezon City Planning and Development Coordinating Office on Feb 14 where they were briefed on the city’s Planning Department structure, data gathering and management, and use of the Geographic Information System or GIS. Cebu Provincial Capitol Scholarship Aid

The Cebu Provincial Capitol is calling out the valedictorians and salutatorians from public high schools to avail of its scholarship program. They are also automatic beneficiaries of Capitol’s Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) this summer. Sixty (60) percent of their salary will be shouldered by the Provincial capitol and the remaining forty (40) percent will be come from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 7. According to the province's official website, the students will be working for 30 days in their respective municipalities. They will receive minimum wage as well as overtime pay and incentives during the duration of the program. Deserving non-valedictorian and non-salutatorian students can also apply for the Cebu Tertiary Educational Assistance Program (CTEAP). 2014 Hardcore Hundred Mile Ultramarathon (H1) - Cebu Winners

Sixteen runners finished the 2014 Hardcore Hundred Mile Ultramarathon (H1) - Cebu despite the strong winds and heavy rain due to Typhoon Basyang . Brian Guillen and Rodah Oporto bagged the men’s and women’s title last weekend at the Don Celestino Martinez Sr. Cultural and Sports Complex in Bogo City . Barefoot Runner Kit Quiseo (2nd Placer) Photo by:  John Domingo Guillen crossed the finish line in  24:07:23. Kit Quiseo who ran barefoot came second (25:06:03). The Malaysian runner Yim Hengfatt (25:06:03) got the third place, followed by Paolo Osmeña (26:00:35) and Elmer Abing (27:06:50). Kathie Villaflor of Davao came second (29:47:22) after Rodah Oporto. Yolanda Village

A groundbreaking ceremony was held last January 30, 2013, headed by Gov. Hilario Davide III and Bogo Mayor Celestino Martinez Jr., for additional houses that will be constructed in the Yolanda Village,  a 1.1-hectare property in Barangay LaPaz, Bogo City, Cebu . Forty-five houses have already been built in the said village. The program was initiated by the City Government of Bogo to help families whose houses were destroyed by the super typhoon. 29 donors composed of foreign and local non-government organizations turned over the houses to the beneficiaries. The donors were also given a certificate of appreciation by the City. SunStar reported that the City Mayor said they are prioritizing the 1,350 families who live in the danger zone, or those who reside in the 40-meter no-build zone.
