More than 500 volunteers took an oath to be part of the group to help eradicate illegal drugs in the City of Bogo. The “Drug Warriors” are volunteers made up of the 240 drug-related personalities who surrendered and local residents of the city’s 201 sitios and 29 barangays.

Bogo City Vice Mayor Maria Cielo “Mayel” Martinez said that this initiative is the fruit of the city’s efforts to institutionalize a well-crafted program to rehabilitate all the drug surrenderers in their locality. - CDN

These Drug Warriors will ensure that the anti-drug campaign of the city government will be enforced in the Barangay level. The city’s campaign against illegal drugs has been crafted by all the sectors in the city namely the government agencies, the city council, the religious sector, the LGUs, and the ones who surrendered themselves.

According to the records of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bogo City has a total of 1,381 drug surrenderers. “For them to be able to participate in our rehabilitation programs, we required the surrenderers to undergo an assessment to categorize them according to the severity of their cases. This way,we can provide them the programs tailored to their needs,” Martinez said.

Senator Richard Gordon spearheaded the groundbreaking ceremony and laying of time capsule earlier today (September 2, 2016). See FB photo album here.

“The establishment of a branch in Bogo City will further bring Philippine Red Cross services nearer and more accessible to people in the northern part of Cebu. People from Bogo and neighboring municipalities will not have to go far to access Red Cross services like blood as the new building will have a blood collecting station,” said Senator Gordon.

The move to establish a PRC branch in Bogo City was strongly supported by the local community which sees the need for the Red Cross to continue its presence in the communities it assisted in the aftermath of typhoon Yolanda.
